Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has congratulated

Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has congratulated Nigerians on the New Year and urged them to face the future with optimism, hoping that the new year will bring good tidings.
In a New Year message by his Media Office in Abuja, a copy of which was made available to us, Atiku thanked God for keeping Nigeria together, despite the myriad of security, political and socio-economic challenges.
“Despite our challenges in the area of security, infrastructure, politics and economy, I am grateful to God for keeping us together as one. It is my hope that we all will face the future of our country with confidence and fervent hope, that God will grant us the better tomorrow we are working for,” he said.
The former Vice- President, however, urged leaders in political offices at different levels, to brace up to the challenges of nation-building and economic prosperity for the nation and its people.
He described as unacceptable worsening poverty in the country, which is daily taking its toll on the ordinary citizens of Nigeria, adding that leaders should not take the continued patience of the Nigerian people for granted.
“With hard work and dedication, elected leaders and public servants can rise to the expected challenges of national development and economic prosperity, to redress the deepening poverty of ordinary Nigerians in 2014. Public office holders should not take the magnanimity of the Nigerian people for granted,” Atiku said.
Be more prayerful – Oni

Former governor of Ekiti State, Chief Segun Oni, has urged Nigerians, especially Ekiti people to remain prayerful and be hopeful for better deal from God in 2014, adding that; “In this New Year, the will of God will prevail on our dear State, Ekiti.”
In his New Year message signed by his Media Aide, Lere Olayinka, a copy of which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune, the former governor said: “The people’s goodwill and support for him in the year 2013, has further reinforced his commitment to serving the state wholeheartedly.’’
While thanking the people of the state for their support, he expressed delight that the people have now seen the difference between a government ran by honest and sincere people, who were prepared for governance and those who got to power by judicial manipulation.
He maintained that “No matter how thick a cloud is, there will always be sunshine at the end.”
“I therefore, wish to congratulate the entire people of Ekiti State on seeing this New Year in good health, and it is my prayer that the good Lord will make the year a prosperous one for us all.’’
While expressing his gratitude to God for His mercies in 2013, Oni noted that, “in spite of all things, God must be praised and we must continue to give glorify His name.”
2014 ’ll yield good fruits for everyone – Adejare
The Caretaker Chairman of Iseyin Local Government Area of Oyo State, Alhaji Saheed Adejare, in his New Year message, wished the entire people of the local government area a very happy new year, praying that 2014 will yield good fruits for everyone.
In the message, a copy of which was made available to the Nigerian Tribune, on Monday, he showered gratitude to God for keeping everyone all through the year, expressing appreciation to the people of the local government area, for their cooperation and efforts, aimed at maintaining peaceful coexistence.
Alhaji Adejare prayed that Allah would continue to sustain the people, assuring that he would continue to give his best to the progress and development of the area, with a view to uplifting the good name of the local government area even in the incoming 2014.
Embrace peace,unity for progress of our society – Oyewo
Chairman, Caretaker Committee, Egbeda Local Government Area of Oyo State, Alhaji Mufutau Animashaun Oyewo, has enjoined the people of the area and Nigerians at large, to embrace peace and work in unity for the progress of the society and the country.
This, in his new year message, he said, will enhance the desired development and better the lots of the people.
“2014 will no doubt be a year of rapid development for Oyo State, especially Egbeda Local Government Area, as there are practical and calculated efforts to achieve this. We have dotted our i’s and cross our t’s just like the state government has also done, to put in place good infrastructure facilities and empower both young and old, thereby creating wealth in the society.
“I hereby enjoin you as you celebrate God’s grace and mercy which saw us through 2013, to always champion the course of peace, unity and support for government, as nothing can be achieved in a chaotic atmosphere.”
Alhaji Animashaun also appealed to the people of the area and Nigerians at large to always pray that God should give the people in government, knowledge and wisdom to steer the ship of the country to the promised land.
God ’ll protect, preserve us to the end – Segelu
A frontline member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency, Honourable Olayinka Oladimeji Segelu, rejoices with Nigerians for being beneficiaries of God’s grace to witness the beginning of the new year 2014, praying that God will protect and preserve us to see its end.
Honourable Olayinka Segelu noted that Nigerians have every reason to thank God for sparing our lives and preserving our fatherland, in spite of the challenges confronting the nation, and called on religious leaders to continue to offer prayers to the Almighty God for the speedy transformation of Nigeria, which is the dream of all Nigerians, irrespective of our inclinations.
The PDP stalwart said as a politician, he would always work for the improvement of the socio- economic well-being of the people of Akinyele/Lagelu Federal Constituency, who he said, deserve better representation in the House of Representatives in 2015, to attract federal projects to the area.
As a token of his commitment to the welfare of his people, Honourable Segelu just completed comprehensive grading of the major road from Oyedeji to Eleruko stretching to about 18 kilometres, to ease movement of people and their goods from the villages to the city, during this festive period and beyond.
He, however, stressed the need for leaders at all levels of government to take criticisms in good faith as an ingredient of democracy, admonishing the followers to be patriotic and constructive in criticising government, to avoid unnecessary friction capable of further heating up the polity.
Honourable Segelu said if all politicians and political parties played politics in strict adherence to the relevant laws of the land, 2015 election will be peaceful and a true reflection of the wishes of the electorate.
